I am legitimately jealous. All of the mk2's around here are overpriced rust buckets. I'm beginning to think I'm living in the wrong neck of the woods.
over priced rust buckets? Horrible. Lotta clean mk2 mk3 and mk4 near me for cheaps.
Well Thursday evening I did a new water pump, timing belt, tensioner, accessory belts and an oil/filter change. Didn't bother removing the pump yet for a reseal, as it was producing perfect amounts of internal pressure and doesn't loose prime at all or have any leaks. So I'll leave it for now
.
Previous owner had the belt really loose, and I am pretty sure the timing was extremely retarded. Like the one stock setting of like 0.87mm or whatever lol. It was down on power, smokey and hard to start. Even at operating temps you had to use the cold start handle to start it.. super retarded timing. Dunno where she is now, but she runs good and doesn't clack too much.
So now.. It is a perfectly running, fully functional (sunroof, power windows, power locks..), clean as all hell ~$580-600 car
Be Jealous.
Been commuting in the car for work, 100km daily. 4.5L/100km, oh yeah baby. A 55L tank even at 6L/100km is still roughly 916kms to a tank. If you could maintain a steady 95-100km/h highway for the entire tank of fuel, I see no reason not to break 1100km on a tank.
Full driveway of Volkswagens
. Two Mk1, Two Mk2, an Mk3, and an Mk5. Three in the top of the drive are all diesels
. 1.6 TD 88, 1.9 TD 84, and 1.9 M-TDI 84. The other three? They are gas, and we won't even talk of them lol.
When we brought it home;
Just this past week; SHINY
440,000 kms?! Says who lol. Minimal shaft play, and a beauty looking cam.
Full driveway of Volkswagens . So you should say, Drivers Wanted? I bet your neighbors would like a few to drive away from the driveway. Looking like a used VW lot to me. But still looks good.
They're all plated and daily'd
so the neighbours can kindly piss off. lol. But yes, they do feel that way. I'm in a very uppity rich end of town too, so its not the best place to be doing motor swaps in the driveway and car stripping LOL!
If they get grumpy tell them if you aren't taking parts off the cars in your driveway you will take them off cars in theirs. How can you have that many drivers in one place? Condo rental? 6 roomies?
HAHA They don't all stay here permanently
Only the two silver mk2's and the red and black mk1's.
Me (black 84), Bro (red 84), Gf (two silver mk2's)
Leave it to the lady to have the style and class and the guys the crass.
Gotta hand it to you for getting such a hidden gem.
That car looks fantastic! In some ways i miss my mk2 jetta TD, but in so many other ways i'm enjoying the small creature comforts of my mk3 tdi.
part of me wants to find another jetta like yours just to work on.

Why thank-you! Part of me wants to find a car just like yours!!
Car just logged 910kms to a not fully full tank of diesel, didn't have time to wait for the foam. So from near empty it took 49L and then back down to the same spot it did over 900 kms!
!
Just went to canadian tire, to get a warranty replacement on the 4 year old battery that was in the car when I got it. IT was dead when I went to get the car, but has held a charge since August with no issues until last week when temps started really plummeting. I have a small drain back issue with the fuel, and the glow plug system isn't up to snuff (yet lol) either so it has extended cranking periods.
Anyway, the glovebox had a warranty paper in it. Thinking AWESOME! Its for the battery that is in this car! Nope lol. I didn't figure this out till I had the battery in the store on the counter trying to gather the warranty. So The guy says they will still give me something based off the code on the battery as a trade-in. Not full value of what the warranty would be, but still more than the $15 battery trade-in. So with the date code being early 2008 (!!!) I was expecting maybe $30 trade-in.. I got $65 for the battery I didn't even have papers for!! AWESOME. My $130 battery now cost me $76.50 after taxes
3-year free replacement no questions asked, 9 year pro rated, and unlimited road side boost assistance for the 3 years too.
It needs the new battery and the 650CCA just doesn't cut it up here at anything below -15c. What I ended up getting is literally the largest capacity battery that will fit the tray of the VW's that Canadian Tire offers. It is a Motomaster 1100CA 900CCA
Yeahhhhhh buddddddy.
Got some new glow plugs, and they are going to be pimped at the same time
Going to switch it over to a full synthetic oil as well, this thing is going to love winter when I am done with it tomorrow.
Aww Yeah,
.
Also, this is how we Canadians deal with winter car work
Only using it to pop the pump and camshaft pulley off
