Well before I got rid of the jetta (it was well modified) I was, "having some fun" with a WS6 firebird, and had the speedo completely burried, at 220km/h + (have no idea how acurate the gauge was) as well as my egt gauge at 1800 degree's   He was slowly moving away, but kept glancing back in shock to how close I was.

I know the feeling of a getting off a quick sled and into a slow car or just about any sub $100K sports car, and have it feel slow. I have a 2005 summit X 1000 (175hp at the track all 162"s of it) it is geared down and will still do 100mph in a foot of freash snow.

When I had my 1.6lTD with the 4S transmission (3.94 and .75) my maximum speed was 180km/h. The engine rev was near from 5000RPM.

With the CHD transmission and 1.9lTD engine, I can only tell you that my counter stops at 200   (3.67 and .75)

260kph? Good grief.  Anything over 180 or so is enough enough to get you arrested and charged with criminal neligence if you got caught (considering the highest speed limit here is 120 (75mph).  Certainly hope that was on a closed track.

From what I saw... the highest speed limit in canada is 110km/h.... and I don't think he was on a close track.   The canadian laws are not as severe as they are in the US...  :( he would have lost his license and pay something like 1500$.

60km/h over the speed limit in canada is "excesive" and depending on province is about $500 ticket +/- $50 depending on province and an automatic court apperance.

I had one in Northern, B.C. where the speed limit was 90km/h and i was going about 150km/h on a straight flat highway in the summer, I had been traveling at that speed for about 30min and had not seen another car yet, shortly after I was overtaken by a pickup that must have been doing 180km/h  20 min later I saw a car on the edge of the road and started to slow done to see if they had broken down (it is very remote up there and you always stop and check to see if people are okay) and as I got close an officer walked into the middle of the road and waved me to the sholder and proceeded to give me the ticket.

As a side note, at the court appearance I had it overturned.

Kinda off the subject but there are times when I feel it is "resonable" to travel at speeds that are deemed "excessive" by the law.

Agreed.  The law is based on a dry road, and "average" cars and "average" drivers. On a flat, dry, straight interstate, with a good driver in a new TDI, 100mph is quite safe and reasonable and I have done that on road trips.  In my old subaru, 100mph would never be safe no matter what the conditions or the driver's experience -- the car would disintegrate. And I know someone who managed to put a TDI jetta into a 360 degree spin on a flat dry highway, while barely over the speed limit.  Luckily it had a low enough center of gravity to skid instead of flipping.  And I have also been on roads where 25mph was unsafe and unreasonable even with four studded snow tires and lots of experience driving on snow (and all the bad drivers see the 55mph signs and hit the accelerator in order pass me before sliding into the ditch).  So many variables that go into solving the physics problem, but only one "legal" answer to it regardless of the inputs.

An O2A from a TDI Jetta would be a good fit and has gearing that could get you pretty fast with enough power.

it is ONLY 500$ if the policeman only gives you a speed ticket, but you can also be charge with dangerous driving (don't know how to traduce it in english  )  .

Someone I know had a 1500$ ticket this way.  160km/h in a 50km/h zone. It is like going 220 in a 110 zone.

sorry if it's off the subject  but I though it was important to bring it here since you were talking about top speed.
