I paid $50 for my ACN. $25 for the .71 5th gear i purchased with it as well. $30 to reseal it completely, BAM.

http://www.scirocco.org/gears/That's how I decided to use a CTN 02A trans in my Rabbit build; at around 65 my calculated RPM should be 2290, right on the edge of the Bullseye! Upping that to 70 MPH only goes up 176 more.
I know it's only a math-based app, but it sure helps us out when speculating on what RPM ad what MPH when relating to gear ratios and tire size.
And helps those of us bad with maths.

I use that nearly everyday. It works for other cars too, and I like the ability to enter the tire sizes and figure out what speed for certain rpm and vice versa.
I have a CTN.. but I need to figure whether to use it.. the 100mm axles and hydro clutch are what is holding me back.

I would like to find a .71 cheap enough. If I do the diesel swap, I will have the trans out, from the brokevw site fifth gear swap should take me five minutes, and I like to cruise at 70-75 but never liked to in my FF, still sounded like a pissed off hornet to me. so anything I can to to help would be nice, shoot if I could at least keep up with the semi's without needing earplugs Id be happy

If it is the 1.6NA their peak torque is something low like 2200rpm.. But good luck even maintaining speed at that low of an rpm. There is not enough power that low to be able to sustain in 5th gear. However they do give you a manual transmission to be able to shift right?!? lol
I found that my 1.6NA (FN trans) loved cruising at or near 2900-3000. (120km/h)

I use that nearly everyday. It works for other cars too, and I like the ability to enter the tire sizes and figure out what speed for certain rpm and vice versa.
I have a CTN.. but I need to figure whether to use it.. the 100mm axles and hydro clutch are what is holding me back.
16v Rocco axles, 93 eurovan clutch cable setup, 89' Corrado speedo cable, aftermarket trans mounts, heck even aftermarket rod shift kit. I have some links to vendors on most of those parts, PM me; I have a bookmark folder FULL of o2A conversion parts and info!
Also I agree that the 1.6 NA doesn't go anywhere at that low a rev. My GP 3+E 4 speed sat around 2650 @65 and was NOT content with acceleration with any sort of grade.
Sure she earned that 50 mpg, but that kind of economy teaches patience.

IIRC, he did his trans swap for well under $1k, including the trans, axles, everything..

Well, I have the trans.. and some mk3 100mm axles I could probably use for inner cvs maybe.. So really all I would need is the clutch cable, and mounts. I could run the cable shifter, as I have that too.. and have a good way of mounting it up from the bottom of the car.

Sounds fine. Many people do use/buy 100mm inner CVs and just leave it at that, which is okay. The cable shift is okay too, but remember you'll have to fab up your own shifter enclosure due to having to mount the shifter box in-cabin. Don't forget to rout the cables through the hole where the auto trans selector cable would go, as that is the easiest area to rout them. It's just a blank plate you knock out of the FW.
More on-topic. . . well . . . seems like we've moved off-topic. Maybe we should continue the 02A discussion in a separate dedicated thread?

you cannot pu a 100mm inner cv on a 90 axle... its thicker so no room for the c clip ... you would have to mod 100mm inner cv by thinnin it out..

Is the 02a wider or something? I just bought 100mm half shafts and installed them on my 020, but I have mk2 so the outers all work, I just had to swap the trans flanges.

issue is lack of supply of USED mk1 100mm axles... vs a mk2.. all you got is 16v rocco and FEW cabby...
cannot just install 100mm joints on a 90mm shaft.. yea if you can find a few worn out/broken 100mm mk1 shafts you can use other 100mm joints on them for a rebuild.. but supply is low.. i got lucky with my NIB 100$ set.. most places want 100 each... and IMO quality does not matter... all you seek is the shafts... LOL.. so buy as cheap as you can.. let them break.. use good joints from doner parts of tdi/vw oe joints.. reason why i am NOT worried about my NIB ones.. some off brand empi/china crap..
