Hi,
What is the best source for the triangular socket needed to fully disassemble a Bosch IDI pump? Also, will this work on the early TDI pumps as well?
Thanks,
Ian
I had a hard time sourcing out that tool! I ended up making one from a 10mm 6pt socket and a dremel. I can't recall where I saw the specs of the angles where you would need to grind out the material on the socket, but my homemade modified socket works like a charm!
One of these?

Got to:
http://www.metalnerd.comsearch in Specialty Bits and Drivers - $23 US
rt MN3001 - Specialty Socket for Triangular Head Bolts
It's 3 sided, equal angles between them. Easy to make with a socket and a grinding bit on a Dremel.
I saw that earlier, that is why I asked if the TDI and IDI bolts had the same head. Just checked with metalnerd and they say it won't work.
Prothe has em....

Hans/emiata has it
Cheap
I bought one from him

I agree to be careful what you buy from emiata
But a socket for a few dollars isn't going to leave you stranded somewhere
He has the socket that fits
Only a few bucks
Among the things I've bought from him - the exhaust clamp release tool (at manifold), sells for $45-$90 elsewhere. I paid like $15 from him for an identical one I paid about $75 elsewhere
Now I have 2, making it easier to install

Getting them to release is easy. Just use a pry bar from the top and the come off with a big "clang". Its getting them back on that is the trick. I finally made a copy of the factory tool and does it work well. It takes about a minute from picking up the clamp to being done.
