Solid Lifters in two drain holed head?

Hi

I can't find the answer or work it out myself from pictures so had to ask.

I'm looking at a nearly new AMC cylinder head which has come off a transporter. It is a 1.6td head and has two drain holes at the front, not just the moulding that looks like two drain holes.

I have asked the seller and they said it has adjustable shims, but I thought all heads with the second drain actually being there have oiling for the hydraulic tappets.

Looking on the AMC website the solid lifter heads have the second drain bulge, but the drain isnt there, unlike their hydraulic head which has the second drain.
On this head it has the second drain, is made by AMC and has adjustable tappets. Should it be an hydraulic head, and could someone have put solid lifters into a hyrdraulic head?

Yup, with the proper length valves you can use solid are hydro lifters in either head. Of course the drains have to match up.

Ok, so would I be right thinking, because this head has a second oil drain, there are oiling galleries to the lifters which allows the use of hydraulic lifters? And someone has just put the old transporter adjustable followers in to make it the same as the original.

If you want to use hydraulic head with stock mechanical lifters, you have to use valves from mechanical head and 10mm longer valve springs than stock.

Are you sure about that? It seems to me that you'd HAVE to have oiling to the lifters whether or not they're hydro. Friction would be very high without it.

nope, solid lifter heads dont have oil to the side of the lifter like hydro heads. they rely on the oil coming out of the cam bearing journals to lube the lifters in a solid head..
