Hood looks great.  I would love to do that on mine, but the roof and deck lid are just as bad.  I think I have some charcoal grey that may be close enough to work on mine to do all the top surfaces.  This color is idiotic in Florida...

Rick

Although I am pleased with the results, I probably will not do it again unless I have the correct tools. The shaker can method was difficult and caused me extra work and grief a couple of times. Ultimately I would like it done professionally.

With the surface area that you need to have covered, I would recommend a professional respray. But you can save a ton of cash by doing the prep work yourself. Get a good orbital da sander (read: not a Ryobi, took me forever!)

Thanks for the compliment though!

its all a learning curve for first timing something, and cheaping out on tools as you learnt is not always the best of methods.

Man this thread is old, but instead of starting another I figure I would just keep this car's progress in this thread. Kind alike a build thread, except I wont be tearing any motors down. (at lest not yet)

Lots of little things have been repaired or replaced. Timing belt, water pump, power steering pump & reservoir, new v belts, fuel filter, oil change.

The fuel return lines were rotted out and one sprung a leak while it was warming up at my local Circle K whist getting coffee. Two learned lessons from that. NAPA is the only real auto parts store here in Florida. Everyone else are just accessories and cleaning supplies stores. Window washer fluid tubing is not a good replacement.

Now for some pics. If ya like you can go to page 1 of this and see the "before".

Upon recommendation from just about every user on this site, I have got some gauges installed. I have one or two left to go, tach and volt. I liked the VDO gauges and went with the BFI Kit. Although I felt like an *** once I got the kit and realized what I paid 25 dollars for. None the less..

Replaced some things..

Made it clear that following behind me is probably not in your best intrests if you're in a hurry...

Other than that I have just rubbed on it some to brighten it up, clean up the plastics, and tinted it. (A must in the "sunshine state")

Just plan on putting eibachs all around to drop it a bit, those sexy black nickel wheel studs from BFI, e codes and smoke out the rest of the lights, and an intercooler. I've snagged one from a junked Saab 900S. That will be about all I will be able to get away with before my fiance pulls the cord on my VW spending in anticipation of the upcoming wedding in Feb.

Here is what she looks like currently...

I still have the eco pump on it and have only been driving iit regularly here in the past month or two. Even after dumping a quarter tank of fuel all over the ground on two separate occasions I got 300 miles on ten gallons. This tank will be my first full run hopefully now that I have proper fuel return lines on.

I've had a few eco diesels. That looks like a nice one. Here's what I'd do to it if it were mine. I'd get a transmission from an 85 to 89 Golf or jetta diesel, get a true turbo pump (just happen to have one here if you're interested), and put the stock air cleaner back on with a Mann filter. You don't want a cone filter down there in Florida it will just suck that fine sand right thru it. The stock air filter box on that is bigger than all the other diesel engines so use it, it works good. The k14 turbo those cars come with is great too, don't change it. Don't overboost it and don't over rev it you'll just ruin it if you do ( and it's easy to over rev with the AVX transmission those cars come with).
Look, if corn and kudzu fall in love and have a baby in a lab under the supervision of scientists working in my employ, WHO AM I TO STOP THAT other than the CEO responsible for stopping it???
