I think the gt1852 would be the perfect vnt for your engine.  It would be the perfect daily driver.  The gt1852 will spool way faster than your k24 and be way more efficient in the top end.  Malone has been testing with this turbo and getting awesome power and lower egts compared to the 17/22 hybrid on tdi's.  The price is right too!  I installed a gt1749va on mine and the power increase over the k14 I had is unreal.  I just bought a gt2256 off ebay for dirt cheap which I will install this winter.  There is another one for sale right now on ebay currently at $180.

So the vnt 17 and bigger won't fit behind the engine? Is that right?

So what about the ones MJF posted. I could give a little spool time up for cooler/efficient air up top. I can spool the K24 I have with the 3" downpipe no problem so if I could have that good of spool time with better flow in that same time :D :D :D

To myvolkswagen:  The 17 will fit no problem. It is what comes some 1.9TDI engines...It will need to be controlled somehow as they use factory electronics in the TDI engines. The 17 will be upside down compared to the normal K24 turbo, but it will fit. The Rear engine mount will have to be modded or fabbed for the intake to the turbo to get air on MK2 and 3, but MK1 it isn't there.

Malone tuning has been working on larger vnt turbo kits and he has some good things to say about the gt1852v.  Check out what he has to say about it on his website.  One thing that caught my attention was egts which reminded me of your situation.  When pushing 170hp+ egts tend to get out of hand with a vnt 17 and the 17/22 hybrid.  The gt1852v runs much cooler at its max recommended boost of 26psi.

I know this info is for a tdi but I have found that a 1.9 tdi flows about the same amount of air as a 1.6idi.  The idis tend to flow more air than a tdi of the same displacement.

If your pocket book is your guide than my vote is for the used vnt2256v on ebay right now with the current bid of $180.  Or spend a bit more and get the genuine brand new gt1852v that you posted in your first post.

How can a "good" turbo cost 180.00? I won't spend it right now as I am kind of waiting for regcheeseman to get the electronic controller made and selling ... and more $$$ I also need the intercooler first so it will be a while. I figure if I am going to do it I should only spend the $ once so research as much as possible and buy it one time.

I did read on malone's site that is what got me thinking. The ones that MJF posted have me curious as well though. 800 or so gets them new and if it works perfectly I would save for that.
