top speed problems

I've got a 1.6 TD with a 7A transmission (3.94 FD - 3.45 - 1.94 - 1.29 - 0.91 - 0.71)
I know I have a boost leak (ebay intercooler, never again!) and I'm having trouble keeping up with highway traffic
the car maxes out at 120 kp/h, and by maxes out i mean downhill, and screaming
can the top speed be affected by the lack of power the engine is making, or is it completely dependant on the transmission and final drive ratio?
I don't think my clutch is slipping, it's new, feels fine and is adjusted properly
my differential may be going, it bucks a bit when decelerating at low speed sometimes

anyways, I don't think the transmission as ever had it's gears messed with, but is that the only option?

With an air leak in the fuel supply, I've had  low engine power limit me to 3 MPH.  It can be the limiting factor.

How much boost are you leaking? if you have 0 PSI, that might be  a pretty reasonable top speed.
That said, I know a bunch of folks running 20+ PSI on Chinacoolers without issue.  I also know  JB-weld can hold more than that.

at 120 KPH, is your RPM the same as max governed speed in 3rd? ? answered.

if your leaking boost, and the engine is working to spin the turbo but is not seeing the gains for the work it is putting out.. then that seems reasonable. Fix the leak and enjoy being able to go faster than 120 ;)

my n/a with similar trans 3.89fd and 0.71 5th can cruise along at 125-135km/h no problem..

Check for air in the fuel, and fix the boost LEAK!

X2!!!!!!!!!
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
