Anyone have any info on these? They came in Nissan Patrols, as well as a few larger sedans in Japan.
They're built off the ever-popular RB-series engines (Skyline RB26, et al). Supposed to be built VERY solid, sorta like our VW diesels. They were built during the 90s, when Nissan had their strongest engines, IMO.
The RD28T is a 2.8L inline6 turbo. I think the Patrols got an electronic injection system, I'd be more interested in the older mechanical system. The turbo engines have piston oil squirters.
This is about all I've been able to find. Curious to know what the compression ratio is. The pumps are Nissan units, I believe, they didn't use Bosch or anything, but I could be wrong there.
123.3hp @ 4400rpm
188lb-ft @ 2400rpm
I'm thinking of picking up a S30Z and dropping one of these in it. I think it'd take boost pretty well, see if I couldn't get a cool 200hp out of it.
RD is the newer with aluminium head? I know one Volvo 240 with older cast iron head engine (LD28?). It runs low 12´s at quarter, so there must be nearly 400hp... I know the owner, but he doesn´t want to tell exact specs
It is his all year around daily driver and over 100kkm driven with such power. I believe pump is licenced Bosch, pretty much same as regular Bosch. The car shows in some quarter mile video in youtube, I´ll try to find it...

That is very awesome
I love how it sounds.
Yes, the RD28 has an aluminum head and cast iron block. I discovered it has a very stout bottom end (typical of Nissan till the late 90s) forged crank with nice fillets.
400hp, huh. That makes me want to see what I can do with one that much more. 200hp was very conservative, I bet it could give 300hp all day every day without too much work.
