Wow,  well, that would be my answer. thank you turbinepowered, it cant get any clearer than that.

   I have a few pictures that i can scan and upload showing the tension bolts used in the 1.2l tdi  i just have to get my scanner working and ill post them.

And to add to the joy of the above: A TDI running 19:1 compression with the same 44 pounds of boost would be running an effective 95:1 compression ratio, with ~1400psi cylinder pressure (neglecting heat and valving losses) at TDC.
