the VNT route is the way to go if you want to complicate things and have to possibly build an electronic controller. a normal turbo requires no other modification really. just pipe exhaust into it, and pipe the boost into the engine, voila. you can use a VNT for an exhaust brake also. theres lots of high points with a VNT turbo, its just damn hard to make them work right on an engine that has no setup for running any electronics.
besides, that tiny little turbo you got might do just fine. probably not gonna build no 30 psi, but its a start in the right direction.
