my Turbo diesel that I no longer need didn't sell on ebay and the highest bid was dissapointing, so now I am kicking around the idea of killing the car (seems to be a new trend with me) and steal everything I could possibly need in the future and just store the stuff in my garage.
the turbo is fine which makes me wonder how hard would it be to add the turbo to my 85 NA?
second I can use the oil pan from 84 on 85 correct? and reuse my oil lines if not just swap them in for whats on the vehicle now (oil cooler and all) correct?
since I have a NA pump my EGT's wouldn't go too high shoot I could even IC the 85 since there is more room.
and then in the future rebuild my 1.6l Turbo motor and drop it in it's place.
what you all think?
how much time/$$ would I be talking, from what I can gather not a whole lot maybe 1 weekend of serious wrenching.

you can do it, but it'll be hard on the NA engine. You shouldn't beat it up too much or you might kill it. What is wrong with your turbo engine? Is it just rings? Provided you don't need pistons you can rebuild it for very little money. If you don't care about the NA then just turbo it and see how long it lasts.
ya it's only got 120k on it and I just put a new timing belt on it, starts quick and doesn't use oil...
so I figure if I keep the EGT's at a safe level all should be good.
what is a NA max EGT safe temp?
Does this help?

If I remember correctly, someone advised tuning EGT's to about 200 less than stock limits on a TD... That means you'd end up trying to shoot for around 1300 degrees or so max.
