K14 turbo interhangability
« on: June 03, 2009, 07:00:16 pm »
Will a K14 turbo fit on a 83 1.6 T/D exhaust manifold and everything else hook up the same as far as the downpipe ect.  Would this be a good turbo for a daily driven 81 Rabbit at 65-70 mph and some pretty good mountain pulls.  I'm not looking for all out horsepower but fast spooling and torque where you need it in the real world.  Are they oil cooled or water.  I am thinking about getting a better turbo since I found out the stage 1 t3 was too much for what I do. What did they come on anyway, from what I read they sound just right for my needs.  Does anybody know a good place to get a good stock rebuilt one and about how much do they normaly run?  I heard G-Pop Shop is reliable and fair priced, what do you all think?

There are a few different versions of the K14 from the VW diesels. In the USA, you guys guy a K14 on the 1.6 eco diesel. In Canada, we got the K14 on the 1.9 AAZ. It`s slightly larger. In Europe, they got a water cooled K14. I`m not sure how it compares size wise.

The K14 sounds like a good turbo for your application. It will bolt right on. You will need to change the air intake hose and the boost hose from the turbo to intake manifold as they are different diameters.

I read somewhere on here a while back that they are a little smaller than the t3 and spool up quicker, is that true and this is basicly just a stock engine with a .020 re-bore and a stock pump with fresh rebuilt by Giles 155 injectors.  That damn mountain is my biggest issue but I don't have higher than 1,100 EGT's on it though and the engine doesn't go over 195.

Just on the topic of the k14, has anyone heard of a k14-2?
Came on some mercs and i was just wondering what the difference was compared to the normal k14?
Would it fit in a k14 exhaust housing?
