soo ive been geeking it up for the past 2 hours looking at compound turbo info and just dreaming. and came across this product. a quick spool valve. so i did a search to see if anyone has messed with these before and nor here or vortex came up with anything.
http://gtrpwr.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/36433.jpgfrom what i understand they only work on split exhaust turbos? can some of you pros school me on if this is a possibly cheap option for a better spooling of a larger turbo.
ok so a twin scroll turbo exhaust side must be used is what i meant. so what would be a good size turbo that you can get a twin scrol hot side for and then run this valve to have a better low rpm boost characteristic then open when you want and be running a larger than what you would need turbo?
Sorta sounds like a more primitive version of a VNT to me...
I would think a true variable turbo would be better - why have two options when you can have an infinite number?
maybe cheaper? i dont know how much vnt's go for compared to twin scrolls
Dunno... VNT's you can at least find in the junk yard. The twin scrolls idea sounds cool though, just getting it all together seems like a challenge. If you do it, I'm sure you'd get lots of drools on here!
everything ive seen that has twin scroll exhaust housings would be WAY TOO HUGE for our engines. lots of cummins engines and lots of T4 style turbos have that style of flange.
well i know you can get twin scroll hot sides by themselves. whats a decent turbo thats a little more on the peak boost side of daily driving? t3, t4 size wise? im looking for 30psi daily but have a nice lower rpm boost build up with this valve setup on a stock bottom end 1.6td.
i remember reading about people doing this on turbo mustangs.
