clearance between turbo and firewall...1/2" ok?
« on: May 26, 2009, 03:07:05 pm »

I've got new motor mounts and about 1/2" between the turbo and the firewall.
What do you guys think? Will the turbo be beating against the wall?

Which way will the engine rock when you get on the loud pedal?  Either way it sounds pretty close.  Think of the heat that will be transferred.

That looks like a rather large turbo.  Please do tell.  ;)

The front of the engine lifts and the back lowers down. Run stiffer front motor mount from a G60, and make sure your rear engine and trans mounts are good.

ok, thanks I'll give it a try.

cyrus: turbo is a T3 from an old saab, should be the same as the ones some vw td;s came with

your turbo most likely has a bigger pitch and A/R on the turbine housing. gasser turbos usually have bigger specs, because they use more rpms to spool the turbo. the low pressure turbo on my car is off of a 2.5 l chrystler lebaron or something. its physically the same turbo as a VW t3, it has a bigger exhaust housing on it tho, and it has an A/R of 48, versus the stock 36 A/R of a VW diesel T3.
