still, i dont know how one of these things can weigh more than a 22r. my back tells me a 22r weighs more, and a 1.5/1.6/1.9 weighs at LEAST 50 pounds less. ive weighed a 22r on a good scale that was calibrated correctly. 315 lbs. and how can an 8 valve gas engine weigh somewhere around 200 lbs? theres just no possible way that a diesel weighs twice as much as a 1.8 gasser.

and i can pick up a 1.6 TD and pack it around. not for miles or anything, but i can. and considering a small block chev fully built ready to go is 522 lbs (corvette 327 with headers and an aluminum intake) i know there is no way on gods green earth that i could pick up a whole small block. let alone move it around on the floor very easy...

I think comparing the weights of both engines crank, pistions, and rods will yield a lot of weight in favour of the diesel.

How much does an O2O weigh?? 100-150? that still puts my "back-scale" at around 400 for a 1.6  ;D

Dang you guys are big. 6'2" and 235, here. I know the I5 engines are heavy mothers, having picked one up to get it onto the engine stand at 4AM. And I have strung a short logging chain between the hooks on a 1.6 to carry it like luggage from the car to the checkout at a junkyard. Two handed heaving carry, about 75 metres (gonna change it up on  you folks, ha! :P) or so.

I weighed one wet once, when I was pursuing the possibility of putting it in the back of a Squareback, and as I remember if you discounted the weight of coolant and shed the AC components, you were within 60 pounds of the weight of a fully decked and lubed T3 pancake.

see, now that sounds more like it, 60 pounds off of a T3 pancake motor... i can believe that one. cause i can pick up a VW air cooled engine no problem....

According to the appendix of "A Diesel for a Subcompact Cars" (p.46) the 1.5 weighs 120kg, or around 265lbs.  I would imagine this number included accessories for regular application..

well if the engine weighs 250 and an 020 weighs 75.. that's only 325.... full package.. plus oil, coolant, alternator, Everything fresh fro ma car.. i would say maybe 350-375 as to what i was lifting.. I can understand now.. 250 i could lift myself.. 375 no wayyy lol

325 sounds like an accurate real world weight. because a VR6 weighs in at around 400 doesnt it?
