the differences between n/a pump and LDA pump's
« on: April 20, 2009, 01:27:05 pm »
hi peeps, finally got round to removing the tops from my 2x diesel pumps.

one is a 1.6 GTD pump, and to my knowledge had never been apart, and the other is a 1.9 N/A pump, from an old lump that got removed from a mates car last week.

Anyhoo....the pin that some1 said before was deffo different. but i also noticed the governor was a diff length between the 2 of them? however, in my infinite wisdom, im not sure which one came from which, because whilst comparing them, i dropped one, and cant remember which pump its from.

Does any1 have any idea??

Also.......i marked the throttle position as i was told to, when removing the top of the pumps....but didnt realie i marked both on top of a washer that sits inside the throttle arm.....so now i have no idea where either goes back on......is there a way to find out, or is it trial and error?

I am going to modify the 1.9 bottom end, and remove the pin, that sticks out onto the shaft, and then fit the LDA setup from the GTD onto the 1.9 bottom end....thefore making a Boost enriched 1.9 pump.

I will then fit this, and run it for a while, before removing the governor, and doing the gov mod.

here are some pics so u can see the differences.

1.6 GTD pump

1.9 N/A Pump - notice the pin on the top thats not there on the 1.6?

Both governors

You may notice they are both very slightly diff shape, and one is longer very very slightly?? which is which?

That pin is the stop for the plate that the governor pulls on. The pump with the LDA doesn't have it because the little finger stick down out of the LDA becomes a movable stop. When boost comes on it moves towards the belt end allowing more fuel to be injected. I don't know about the governors.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

well im guessing either Governor will work, and i do happen to have another 1.9 pump here, so if im worried, i could always whip that one out, and see which is which.

Cheers for the info :-)
