Mercedes om603 3.0 diesel engine
« on: May 18, 2008, 10:02:31 pm »
Im sure everyone has seen the videos on youtube of the 2 190E's with the diesel swaps. I want to do something similar, i just picked up an om 603 3.0 6cyl diesel out of an 87 300td. What I want to know is what manual transmission and flywheel will bolt up to this engine? and what manual do they use in the video. I heard somewhere that a 190e manual might bolt up but i'm not too sure. any help would be awsome thanks guys.

Thats awsome your friend has a sweet car. Those trannys come stock in the 190E behind which engine? Is the bellhousing bolt pattern the same along with flywheel between the engine that trans comes from and the om603 the same? Also are those engines in stock form with modded pumps and big turbos? Thanks for all the help I really want to get this project underway.

16 valve gassers have Sport Getrags, those will fit to 6 cyl diesels too. Any flywheel from 201/124 will fit. Some have used Sprinter 250mm pp&disk and made the 200D fw to fit.

How well have those engines held up to the increased output that they are currently producing? Have they been replaced due to catastraphic failure or are they holding up just fine?

thanks for the help

With right use, those will hold fine. But, turbo engine is different than NA, youŽll have to get original dt engine.

I have the bottom end of the 603 engine rebuilt but the cylinder head is where the problem lies. I was pulling the pre-chambers so the head could be resurfaced and I got 5 out of the 6 out. The 6th one the lock ring only moves  a quarter turn then then stops. I've tried heating the entire head then cooling the lock ring and still nothing. By this point the ring was fairly messed up so i even tried welding a socket to it and all i succeeded in doing is breaking 2 3/8 to 1/2 Snap-On adapters and i still get no more than that 1/4 turn. Does anyone have any suggestions into how to remove these?

On a different note does anyone know where I could get 7mm elements for the bosch m pump that is stock on this engine.

thanks for the help
