Long Cranking New Engine
« on: March 13, 2009, 04:24:58 pm »
I was checking out the Rabbit again today trying to figure this long cranking problem out and I did notice today that the pump does indeed leak bad but it only seems to do this while cranking and then seems to stop after it's running.  I did originay have some leaks but tracked them down to the little return injector lines.  The problem is I can't tell where the hell the fuel is coming from and it's a drip about every three seconds on the ground.  I took off the belt cover to check the main shaft seal which I did replace while it was apart and that is all dry inside there.  You would think with that much fuel hitting the ground you could see it squirting out.  I'm pretty sure it is the advance leaver shaft seal and a little bit at the throttle lever but obviously I need the pump sealed.  I think I might try the LDA conversion to my N/A pump on anther thread as everything seems to be the same inside and since the N/A pump I have is a real good one I might as well use it.  I'm gonna practice on an old one I have to see what I'm getting into though first since I never had one apart.  I think the pump and the clock are the only things on this car that I've never had apart yet, and alsothe ciggarete lighter   I gotta get a couple pump seal kits too, I e-mailed 4 Bosch dealers on the net and not a damn one answered and that was almost 2 weeks ago.

the vibrations from the motor could be 'flinging' the fuel so it doesn't drip in precisely the same spot... especially if its a really slow leak.  just a theory  :)
