Thanks everyone or the quick response, especially the You-Tube videos. Again the main reason I'd like to start it first on the ground is that I don't think I will put this motor in the car {81 Rabbit} till later on and I don't want to have it down any longer than necessary. The motor that's in it now runs great and does 50-51 mpg at about 68 mph. It was rebuilt 2 years ago but is not the turbo version. I got this TD engine from my friend who gave me the Rabbit about 4 years ago who quit messng with them and has given me loads of parts, transmissions and such since to get rid of some of his {junk}? I'm 60 years old and have been fooling with mechanical stuff since I was a kid but I've had more fun with these little diesels than the rest of them put together, 55-56-57 Chevys included and it's fun to just sit here on my ass and actually see what other people all over the world are doing, how to do it and where to get parts. People say, "You coud have bought a new car for what you have in that thing", I know you all hear that too don't ya? But those people aren't having as much fun or learning a damn thing are they? Have a Happy Holiday

Welcome !!! Hey, if you enjoy them, revel in them as many of us have. Look, I have a fairly new Jeep Rubicon, but I am dismayed that Chrysler chooses to sell the diesel version to the rest of the world. I now work for anther of the Detroit big 3 and I and not happy the top brass thinks we only use some spread sheet to calculate the return on investment of diesel fuel vs. gas price vs. the extra few dollars for the engine that lasts more than twice as long. Hummm, I thought they were teaching us all that buying a car is an emotional decision. I guess when you never buy fuel for your car you are out of touch with us normal car buying public/// else why else would they not sell us the eco-centric diesel cars they sell to the rest of the world
So, if you are like me, the cost of what you are putting into your project does not matter as it is to make something you can not buy here...

So, who cares what they say to you ?

I'm in a similar situation as you. I was neck deep in vws till they went watercooled. Now I'm back(bought a 97 TDI four years ago) now own 4 TDI cars and 3 pickups all to be TD or M/TDI. If you parts you want to get rid of, let me know.
