So are copper Head gaskets any good??
« on: November 16, 2008, 10:17:11 pm »
I have been searching for a good 1.6td headgasket...I'm still very leery of the moded MLS gaskets.
got me wondering about copper head gaskets...I saw the link in the "compounds thread" to that place in cali that does copper head gaskets for the 1.6...the site makes the copper HG sound like the end-all do-all of HG's BUT....
I get on here and read about "Andy2" blowing his copper HG and copper firerings...I think he posted his went at around 30psi??.... but this was with VERY big compound turbos..
so my question is...is the copper HG any good for use guys not as extreme as andy2???
or is the 1.9 aaz MLS mod better then a copper gasket???
I just want something reliable and strong!

copper??? or AAZ MLS mod????

what gasket is better for 20-30psi..copper or MLS??

they show HG's for the VW 1.5, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0
I assume the 1.6 is the diesel since vw did not make a 1.6 gasser right??
I'm gonna call them in the morning and see what they say.....

Yes, definitely it looks like thay have a HG for the 1.6 diesel. And they look amazing.

Btw, vw did make a 1.6 gasser from 1975 onwards, the engine used on the Rabbit GTI. Both the 1.6 gasser and 1.5 diesel share origin: the 1.5 gasser engine.

keep in mind that you'd have to O-ring the head or block to use a copper HG

I don't see the copper gasket being a long term solution.

Then as Tyler mentioned the O Ring issue.

I am having a hard time believing that oil filler cap rubber or modded gaskets with pieces of old gasket siliconed in is a long term solution either???

whats a guy to do if he wants 20-30psi??
20-30psi=fun zone
