Can some post a pic or link with a clear photo of the Main spring shimmed on the governor?. I have searched but can't seem to get a clear indication of the critical location. I want to make 100% sure I do this right when i reseal the pump.
Thanks!!!

That would be great. I am just a little confused by some people shimming the intermediate, and others the main. It seems the safer way to go is the main spring.
I see where the intermediate ( Short spring) seats travel. I don't have any shims in between this area, there is just an approx .200 gap
I am guessing that to shim the main spring (longer spring) it must have a spacer inserted to keep the Large spring from travelling?. The problem is that it looks like this would have to be a very large shim!!
Sorry for all the basic questions, I know this topic has probably been beat to death but I am resealing the pump this weekend and If I can't find the info I am just going to reassemble the pump with a stock governor.

If i remember ... removed the intermediate spring entirely and replaced it with like 5 washers or something. something like a solid sleeve.
Acceleration went way up. So did the smoke... expectedly

I haven't tried the governor mod, but I have gotten excellent results by backing out this screw a few turns:

The ball pin on the throttle arm has to be moved inward, and a readjustment of the cable jesus clip is needed.
Its also easily reversable, and I have witnessed no bizzar drivability issues.

I have my main spring completely removed and replaced it with a steel rod then I shimmed the intermediate spring with a couple washers.
After I was done I realized there is only about 2mm of movement in the intermediate spring anyway and the 2 washers I put in there pretty much took that space up.
My car drives fine, the cruise works great as well.
Shim away!!!!!

I have heard this from other people as well. I have 2 shims made up.
I can't see the pics on this P.C so I can't confirm the location
#1 is approx .056 thick and will take up the slack in the itermediate spring, disabling it.
#2 is approx .533 thick and would totally disable the main spring.
The question is now, which one should I use?
EDIT*** I just read the post above and it answered my question. Thanks!!!!

Get a thinner one for the intermediate spring and use the larger one for the main spring.

So the point is to not take up ALL the slack, just partial in the intermediate spring?
I will take some pics of these parts and if the car starts and runs fine I will send them to a Mod on the forum to post.

Yes you want to just take up some of the slack in the intermediate spring. You can completely disable the main spring.

The engine will rev till you let your foot off instead of it just hanging at 4000 +/-
