hey Dan you want a AAZ? i got some coming next week?
an AAZ could give that jetta an attitude adjustment!
Duane

I would love one Duane but at this moment I've got to stick with what's already bolted in there.

Toss in some rings and a new head gasket and I'm golden (I hope).

i'm talking a second motor that you can take the time to build right!
so your never in a crunch! maybe even a second body for the motor
you know what i mean?

I have another TD engine sitting here, the plan was to refresh this one then swap out at a later date. I've been forced to hurry things up though so I can do a complete swap..

I think I'll switch back to the 10mm pump head though when I'm doing the rings. Just as well be dumping assloads of fuel in there from the get go..

Out of pure curiosity, who did you purchase that pump head from?

that sucks! hope it isn't too painful to fix. My frankendiesel has been down more than it has been up in the 1.5 years i've owned it.

of all the cars i've owned i've never gotten through from one oil change (3000 miles) to the next without some catastrophy... except for my '89 geo metro with 200k miles, and my 1982 mercedes benz 300D 4cyl stick with 350k. Those were some rock solid rides :)

Well I tore it apart today.

Did a compression test first though.
Ready for this?

#1, 110
#2, 120
#3, 170
#4, 120

I dropped some oil in #3 and 4 and they came up to 180 and 220. I don't know how it was running at all.

So anyway, I found some pcs of turbo on the top of #2, nothing serious at all but there just the same, 1 and 2 had some ever so slight kisses from the exhaust valves probably from the runaway.

On #1,2 and 4 the second ring was stuck in its grove.

The bores look fine so I'll be running a ball hone through there really quick then clean up the pistons up and get it ready to reassemble once the rings arrive.

Well I hesitate to say really, first off the second ring was stuck in it's land there's one reason I'm guessing then the lower ring-land on #2 was actually broken (just discovered this today).
Then theres the fact that they are Top Line rings..
I read on here once about another member getting about 15k out of his Top Line rings before they went to crap so make your own decisions.

I'm all but ready for my new rings to show up.
