Pump Timing???
« Reply #15 on: May 09, 2005, 06:08:16 am »
No to beat a dead horse here, but I wanted to see if I could clear two things up...  I just tried to get my 1.5 running this weekend.

I believe I have a "yellow dot" pump, but just to confirm, where do you look for the dot?  One of the screws on the injector line side of the pump looks to be have some yellow on it and there seems to be some yellow paint that ran down the pump case below it.

Next, according to the Bentley, the pump timing for the 1.5 with the yellow dot pump should be 1.15.  In this thread, several seem to indicate that this is not correct or at least, not optimum.  Can anyone clarify?  I set mine to 1.15 per the manual.

I couldn't get my engine started, but I think I had air in the lines and I had the cold start knob pulled out while cranking it.  It wanted to kick over, but never did.

VeeMan

I have a 1.5 liter with a yellow dot pump and I initially set it to 1.15 and it would not start at all, but I am wondering if i am using the wrong timing mark

How many timing marks are there? and which one do I use if there are multiple ones

I used the first timing mark and have since backed it down to 0.86 mm and it runs and starts a lot better, i just got 48 mpg with it last week

Yes, if there is some remnant of yellow paint on the injector line end of the pump. It's a yellow dot pump.

As best I can remember, mine is set around .95-.98 mm. I forget why I chose that setting.

I have a few different books with different settings in them?
