Author Topic: 90 to 100 axle swap (Read 7085 times)

My 90mm inner axle stubs are ridged and hard to seal, so I think I'll swap to newer 100mm axles. From what I understand, I need inner axle stub, spindles, carriers and axles from a 16V Scirocco. Is that all I need?

Sounds like you got it covered. The only unknown is weather or not you will need spindles and carriers. I have yet to find any definitive evidence that the outer splines on a 100mm axle are different from a 90mm axle. I'd like to know that, though, when I do my TDI swap, I plan on using 16v Scirocco axles to mate with the 02J tranny flanges, but I have no idea what to do on the wheel side.

can't you just keep the 90mm axle shafts on the outer?

I didnt think the outer part was any differant..?

I swaped over some mk3 knuckles on my mk2 and the outer is the same.
I pressed in new bearings but reused the splined part fropm the mk3, was under the impression all mk3's had the 100mm axles.

Anywho, I know have 11" rotors and dual piston Audi calipers with mk3 knuckles on my mk2

I'm hoping the Mk3 knuckles will work on the Mk1's as well.

(that's my plan anyway)

in order to lower it,im told to convert to 100mm cv's

cant i just swap the inner joints+the trans. flanges to 100mm,and use my"old" driveshafts and orig outer joint???

I thought so too, but was told the 100mm inner flanges have a different offset than the 90mm ones. Is this really true???

What do you mean by offset?
I suppose if you had 2 axles one 90mm and one 100mm you could compair if no one knows for sure.

It wasn't the axle itself, but the transmission flange. When we put the 100mm flange on, the 90mm axle was too long.
