Yea look closely in the hole..theres a drilled oil hole like 10mm deep inside the hole.... dont push the freeze plug in too far and block the oil hole.
I rekon that hole is the supply to the IM shaft bearing. The oil gallery plug is right in line with the opening in the IM bearing boss.

i think that feeds the bushing for the oil pump shaft, and lubricates the gears..

take that back, there is a notch in the IM shaft bearing that lubes the gears..
