Building a 1.6TD for my Caddy....and have no drain line for turbo, so I was planning on using 1/2" nipple coming off the turbo and a 1/2" 90 deg nipple into the pan. Is the 1/2" nipple big enough? The inner diameter of it is smaller than the actual outlet hole on the turbo. I'm still trying to find a way to thread the 3/8 NPT into the oil pan. I was going to weld on a bung, but cant find one in steel thats 3/8"...only brass.
Here in California we have shops like "The Hose Man" Any hydraulic shop can set you up with a quality hose braided or not that can be put on and taken off easily. My hose is only 1/2 ID but the drain tube from the turbo is 3/8. I am sure 1/2 is plenty. Post a picture when you are done. I am looking for a better way since I have a Chevy Alt at 125 amps getting in the way of my drain.
I went to tractor supply and bought a length of 1/2'' hyd. hose.I then welded a "black pipe"fitting(1/2")to the oil pan.I will then make a plate for the return and sodder the brass nipple to it.I measured the oil drain for the tdi and its only 1/2" so i called it good.

The hardest part was getting the black pipe sealed to the pan and water tight with the tig.
yeah I was thinking about welding a 1/2" pipe onto the pan, then reducing down to 3/8" so I can screw my 90 deg fitting on to it. I already made a aluminum plate to bolt onto the bottom of the turbo, I will tap it for 3/8 NPT for my brass 1/2" nipple.
