Torque Spec for Alum G60 Valve Cover and Rubber Gasket???
« on: February 06, 2008, 05:47:03 am »
I installed the G60 Valve Cover and a new valve cover gasket upgrade kit last week. I noticed Saturday I still had a couple of oil spots on the garage floor so, I pulled the cover and checked the gasket to see if it was pinched or crushed. It was fine. Put the valve cover back on and torqued it to the 7.5 ft/lbs specified in the Bentley (for the cork gasket and steel cover) and drove it a bit more. Had a couple of spots again. So I re-torqued it to 10 ft/lbs night before last.

At first I thought it might be the oil pan but, gave it a quick cleaning at the car wash and got under and looked and couldn't see anything obvious. Drip is right at the passenger side rear of the block off the top off the oil pan lip that I can see. I don't see anything else back that that could be leaking and I still get a hint of burning oil when I drive so leads me to believe it's still the valve cover.

There are now 3, albeit smaller oil spots on the garage floor this morning.

Does the Alum cover / Rubber gasket need a higher torque value than the cork and stamped steel setup?

Thanks
