Drove Chris-pl's passat today
« on: November 11, 2004, 04:23:31 am »
I've been helping Chris-pl hop up his 93 passat TD over the past few months. It has the AAZ 1.9L IDI engine. We changed the weenie garrett  to a K24, installed a fully modded Giles pump, and intercooled it with a passat syncro setup, which almost entirely bolted in. Just a couple custom pipes are all that were required. Anyway, he called me up saying his intercooler was finished and to come check it out. Ok, it wasn't just fast for a heavy passat, it was fast by any vw diesel standard! And only at 15 psi!! This landyacht pulled hard in all gears, even up past redline in fifth! (stay your safety comments! Straight and flat farmland road, no traffic, daylight, don't do this at home kids)
I'm eagerly anticipating a drive with 20 psi.    Should really be something. He's going to weigh the car, and we'll do some Gtech runs.

I repair, maintain and modify VW's and BMW's.
Good work done at affordable rates. Welding and fabricating, too.
Performance Diesel Injection's Super Pump: gotta have one!

As for comparo, my B4 variant TDI weighs 1510 kg with me inside (95 kg) and 20 litres of fuel.

It should be around 1200....

It has to be a sedan right?

Never seen B3 TD variant.

I'm not sure what the weight is. I imagine it is somewhat lighter than a B4 though, but not by much! These cars have things like steel beams in the doors etc. heeeeavy!  It is a sedan. Here in north america, the diesel B3 passats were pretty rare. I'd say B4 TDI's were more common.
