1.6TD motor starts to smoke white smoke after warming up
« on: April 23, 2016, 08:54:20 pm »
With this 1.6TD motor, it starts and runs fine until it warms up and then starts smoking white smoke -
The head gasket has already been replaced so I am guessing that its not that - maybe warped head or hair line crack in head that opens up at hotter temps?
Could it possibly be an injector that is acting up once it warms up - what do you think?
I have some 1.9TD injectors from an AAZ or 1.9TD VW motor and am wondering if the 1.9TD injectors can be substituted in place of the 1.6TD injectors - are they the same?
Thanks for your time!

I don't know because it is not here with me - so what I need to know is could it possibly be an injector or injectors? If so I will take tools and some of my used but good 1.9TD injectors if interchangeable or same part number with to swap out.

But since it runs fine when cold and then smokes with warm up - it would not be injectors - is that correct?

Has anyone ever had any experience using Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealer - this was recommend - (Head Gasket was just previously replaced by competent previous owner - still smokes - he said he thinks its a crack in head between valves but I have seen these cracks in VW diesel heads before that have worked fine)

It would make sense to me that 1.6TD and 1.9TD are of same BAR - probably a bit higher than the 1.6NA and 1.9NA injectors - and the 1.9s might also have larger nozzles compared to the 1.6s - don't know - if I were to swap one or some out for troubleshooting purposes which should I use the 1.6NA or 1.9TD injectors in place of 1.6TDs?

The 1.9td injectors are 2 stage so won't fit with 1.6 lines. The 1.6d injectors are only 130 bar so will advance the timing too much.
Do you know what the pump timing is set to?

thanks for info - ok Ill  check - timing - if start lever is out I may push it in to see if it diminishes and I can crack b-nuts on injectors one at a time to see if smoking dies - then swap and if problem follows then injector is at fault - but have you or anyone ever heard of an injector(s) kicking out white smoke after warm up?

Air in the fuel will cause white smoke.
