hey this is  freakin awesome 50 mpg,and gotta be in the 14's,,and i didnt touch anything(adjustments+stuff) to accomplish either,,,on  recent trip to ny state this weekend,, i know igot over 50 mpg, because its a 480 mile trip, ifilled up70 miles into the trip,,i arrived and still had a 1/4 tank,,,,well before i got there, i stopped by the road that we marked out 1320 feet, back in the day,yea i still know where the start/finish is,,its ingrained in the brain,we did it with one of those wheel things,my buddys dad worked for the state, surveyor,so we borrowed the "walking wheel",and we marked it out (1320)one night,,,,,,,,ionly ran it once a night when i was just back,,but first 2 nights speedo needle was wavering around 100!! mph at the line,,i know when its reading 70,im doin about 68,,,ichecked that with those speed boxes in construction zones,if they are good,i would figure,,,,,3rd run i did,i tried takin off in 2nd,like granny off the line at almost idle,i dont wanna kill my clutch, lots less wheelspin,,trapspeed was still around 95-100,,,,,im wonderin,,,i know it isnt exact, but, what would my e.t .be for a ,lets say 97 mph trap speed, anyone know ???? :D im pumped big time    i like our 1/4 mile test track,,there was no time for anything but tofocus on 1 gage ,,i went with the egt,and i saw it go to about 13-1400 pre turbo or so,right at the end,so its not even working, its loafing

My G-meter thing said 14.88/97 MPH as that what my fastest time with the TTIDI in the 91 jetta which on that run weighed 2700lbs.Thats with traction problems and a non operational primary wastegate(35psi boost),I guess I should have tried a 2nd gear launch.I once got 900km to 54L,whats that in MPG?

Running computer sims of my TDI-M Scirocco, I figured a 14.5 @ 96.6 mph, 0-60 in about 5.6 seconds.  Might be a little optimistic, as I am figuring a 2120 lbs car, with 160 hp and 220 ft-lbs and a wide 4-speed manual.  But who knows, it sounds like yours scoots along quite well.  :D

i did find a calculator i think it was on tci trans website,,,punch in 1/4 speed,it spits out an et,,from95 to 100,it said anything from like 13.7 to14.4 or so,,,tried a few more,,ranging speed and weight, from 95 to 100,and weight from1800 to 2000(gutted out rabbit),,got about the same thing, timewise,,im thinkin mid 14's maybe, and thats granny shifting to keep my clutch in 1 piece,,,,thats nuts, its a diesel gettin 50 mpg!!!!!!,,,some more calculators for calculating hp seemd to range from 140 to165 or so,,,but diesels are different lots more torque,,i guess some of those calcs. are ok,,,but nothin beats the real world,,ill be happy w/ mid 14's,,mind ya,its not intercooled, and no water injection,,i bet when its "tuned" (wolfgang)it may go 13s?man i cant wait for dragway 42 to open,,gotta get it there im itchin!!!

Hey.. I'm curious; what turbo are you using? Exhaust? 10mm fuel pump? Nozzles? Maximum RPM?

Cheers,

Cheers,

turbo is garret from 86 jetta td,,ported intake+exhaust manifolds, tdi intake, egr valve thingee cut off,1.6td exhaust manifold,,theres alot of porting that can be done ,where the bolt holes are cast in for the turbo bolts,,,,,head mild cleanup  too, intakes cleaned up,,nothincrazy,,,, exhaust ports chamfered to match the exhaust manifold,,exhaust is homemade 2.5 inch turbo back to rear axle,,muffler delete,,, stainless flex approx where stockwould be,,,12mm pump, built at my job,, from my 84 1.6 td,,ran it on that engine too for a while, before putting it on the tdi,,,,,,i coulda used a  right side gas engine mount, and the ahu pump bracket, but i used the a1 diesel stuff,,,,nozzles are kerma race 520's,,,,,,,,,,idont rev it over stock redline, like 4700or so,, i dont see a need to rev the weeout of it,,,,its best workis from2000-3500 or so,, but it will pull to 4500 nicely when you want too,,heh, rev it to 4700 in 3rd,then shift to5th,,feel mad torque pull,,,,needs taller gears though,,the wide ratio 7a is like a gti box in a 1.6 diesel,,,,,but it isnt too bad,,like 3000rpm at 75 or so,,,2500 would be nicer though,,,,some of the parts i alreadyhad on my 1.6,like the pump, and clutch,,motormounts,,and they were already the good hi perf stuff,,rabbittree convinced me to build a tdi,and i gotta give him mad props,,,idont think i was revvin4000 or so thru the "traps",probably in 5th already at 1/2 track,,,gotta set upcold air intake better too,,right now it just pulls the hot underhood air,,illget to it soon, cause its warming upoutside,,,,i may use the stock 1.6intake boot, with a 3inch pipe jammed in it,about 18 inches long, cone filter on end,,box around it to suck air behind headlight,,or i was gonna cut out inner fender, make a intake on the fender,,i mean, get one of those slats that can be welded in the fender,,duct it thru to inner fender,,dont they use some opening from a transporter or something??,maybe kinda cool, but i do like the sleeper look too,,,

If they aren't willing to send to you some I can pick some up and post them out for you if you can't find a Eurovan (Or what ever you lot call a T4) to rape.
There is a VW breakers at the bottom of the road from my garage www.brickwerks.co.uk who often have burnt T4's.
Im going there in the next couple of days, if there is one I'll get the disc cutter out!

Do you find the TDI to run really cool? Like it never wants to warm up and the heaters are crap?

it didnt really seem any worse this winter,,ihad it goin since jan,06,,,heat seemed about the same as a na,or td,,,,,,,um,one thing imnot sure of thoughis wheniwas beating onthe 1.6,itused to get hot,but i let it go closed wastegate too,30+psi,,so imnot sureif some of that hot running may have been the head lifting???idunno,,but if iremember right,it has a 180 tstat in it,,igot one of those motorad "failsafe"tstats,,,ihavent seen it go to 190 at all,,,,,,i was thinkinof putting on the suplimental heater(water outlet, glow plugs),,ididnt even use that housing iused my 1.6 one,,and also used a 1.6 td front outlet,,,theres a problemif you ever tried fitting upa early water stub, versus the later plasticones,,the bolts are clocked different,,itook another water neck, and cut off the stub, heliarc'ed it on at a 45,so the bypass hose would fit good,,illhave to get a pic of that,,,hmmm,,,brb,,,,,

heres a pic of a welded waterneckthat im using on my tdi  -m to get rid of the plastic crap,,itook another neck, cut the stub off,,ground themslightly, toget some angle on the dangle, and voila,a metal lwaterneck for a tdi-m
