power steering belt adjustment and squeal
« on: July 21, 2014, 02:35:44 pm »
Any tips on getting the power steering belt to not squeal? The belt adjustment range is very small and even with the shortest new belt that I can fit on, after a few months the belt stretches and there is no more adjustment available and it starts squealing. Anyone try a Kevlar belt that won't stretch as much?

Are you using the correct belt width? A wider belt sits higher (tighter) in the pulley groove.

My new 1991 MK2 came with an 11.9 mm x 965 mm alternator belt and 10 mm x 740 mm power steering belt. I'm pretty sure that those are the correct dimensions for replacement. I cannot find a new 12 mm wide belt these days.....all now using 10 mm. After 23 years, parts are becoming unavailable here and there.

Yours might be the same????
