I've postponed this late enough.
Just to confirm, will this clutch assembly (82 Scirocco 8v) fit my 1.6td?
From what I can see, it has a diff. size flywheel as a 1.6td?
thanks

yep smaller, 180 or 190mm clutch.. diesel = 200mm stock...
you can run the disk of the gasser in the diesel flywheel too.. just not other way round.. flywheel had to have max disk od machied in it..
other then that same flywheel..

Ok,
so the scirocco flywheel and disc and stuff will work - but they in smaller in size ( the disc)
When I do the above change over, I should look for a 1.6td flywheel & buy a new 1.6td clutch kit ( will a 1.9td fit? - I have a few of those).
Otherwise I suspect the smaller clutch won't last as long during "spirited driving"

yeah 1.9td is biggest that would be good. the stock clutches like to slip once you increase boost and fueling

I do believe all AAZ's were 020. The G60 and 1Z/AHU TDI were the only mk3's to get the 02A.

AAZ were rare in the passat. 93-95. 96 they got the 1Z.

Thanks for all the support & advice.
So
The aaz flywheel, clutch disc & pp will fit my 1.6td and work with a sirocco 5 speed?
Starter-wise will an aaz one fit?
Just trying to make sure I'm going in the right direction, as my budget is being monitored by

My AAZ car has its factory 020... Never heard of an 02A behind an AAZ before from VW.

Yes the aaz stuff will fit and work perfectly.
The one aaz I got had an 02a flywheel that measures 215mm where the disc rides. Don't know if or what it came from. Thinking maybe the Canadian people would know if a Passat or something had it.

Thanks for all the help!
The Sircooco is my backup car for finding a 5 speed locally. I do however have an independent tow truck driver friend who is also looking for me, as I'd like to find a jetta or rabbit diesel. This fellow knows
what is located where whether be in the back 40, buried in a garage somewhere... etc
Although this is also a cool possibility for a 5 speed change over, although the transport costs will easily be $200 + and it would make me feel bad stripping this.
