Reviving a 1.5 need advice.
« on: July 18, 2013, 01:04:12 pm »
ok, so my buddy has a 1.5 motor sitting in his garage.  motor came with caddy he bought a couple of years ago, IIRC the po said that he had just rebuilt it, put it in the truck, started it walked around the truck and the timing belt snapped.  He pulled it out, and never opened it up to check for any damage.
I am thinking of getting it going for a temporary motor to run while I rebuild my 1.6.
What should I do to check it all out.
I am fairly new to these diesels and learning every step of the way.  I really dont know where to start with this one.  Should I pull the head and see if any of the valves/pistons were damaged?
Throw a timing belt on it and turn it over?
Also, what parts are interchangeable between the 1.6 and 1.5.
The 1.5 does not have intake or exhaust manifold.

If it's just a temporary motor that you don't care about that's what I'd do. Well I'd pull the valve cover and rotate everything by hand and make sure it all moves properly.

Pretty much everything.
