Auto trans Inj. pumps?
«

Do we know what the diff between automatic and manual trans injection pumps were back on IDI motors
other than linkage?
I finally ID'd my mystery pump with the help of
http://www.bosch-automotive-catalog.com/public/catalog/products?p_p_id=BoschWSRP&p_p_lifecycle=0&p_p_state=normal&p_p_mode=view&p_p_col_id=column-1&p_p_col_count=1&_BoschWSRP_wsrp-navigationalState=%2FWFS%2FAAGLOBAL-AA-Catalog-Site%2Fen_US%2F-%2FEUR%2FViewVehicle-ViewEquipment%3Bpgid%3DD41D8CD98F00B204E9800998ECF8tr33A9Te%3Bsid%3D8Zhc3cAxdZK4wJFREADQJ8-6u-qUEOCeMn8%3D%3FVehicleMake%3DAUD%26VehicleNumber%3D224%26EquipmentBereich%3D10&_BoschWSRP_proxyportlet-remoteInvocation=true
as an 83-up Audi 80 1.6L automatic pump (0460484108).
Bosch says it was discontinued in 2004 and I suspect it was used on more than just that 80, but I have been trying to figure out it's original application
for awhile, so yay.

Not that I see. Looks just like a regular VE with a wax motor KSB.

Nah, none of that. Bosch # said auto trans, figured maybe something internal.

I suspect very different timing curves due to the auto only having three gears. I put a Giles pump from my 5 speed onto the auto and it clacked like crazy. It may just be the motor but this is my suspicion. It was great on the 5 speed. Of course being a super pump I can't say anything for sure.

That's an interesting thought.
This pump has well under 100K on it and was bought new, and has been on this de-turbo'd AAZ
for it's life. It's timed at .93 and isn't clacky at all other than on cold start before the KSB activates,
but it's never gotten very good fuel mileage. It runs great, as close to zero smoke as you can get,
and has considerably more power than a NA 1.6.
Would it be just a matter of the advance spring/shims being different I wonder?

So, assuming the dynamic advance differers on this pump, what's different?
Pump cam? Surely not, advance spring/shims?
I need to go read my pump docs again.
I'm hesitant to tear into a perfectly good low mileage pump
but this might be a clue toward why the MPG has been sub-par
on this motor for so long.
