mk1 aaz air conditioning and radiator
« on: July 16, 2012, 01:53:50 am »
Is this possible? easily with VW parts?

I would really like to have A/C in my mk1 rabbit, but the A/C compressor hits the front frame piece and is in the way of the lower radiator hose.

I cut the front frame piece and welded in some replacement support so the A/C compressor fits, but now it is just finding a radiator that will fit and provide adequate cooling for the engine.

Guys have done it with the AHU which should be the same block you have without the crank sensor. I would think the condensor from a rabbit with factory a/c should work once you have that compressor fitting.

Thanks, but what about the radiator?  I feel as though my radiator is too wide and the lower radiator hose interference problem.

Guy never replied to anything.  I tried a Vista Pro Radiator 433937 but the core was only 3/4" (0.75") thick.  So I ordered an AFCO 80107N Unit.  which is narrower than the 433937, same height, but the AFCO core is 2.5" thick.  I ordered mine from summitracing, they retail it for 295 shipped, but I called them and they price matched to race-mart.com and I paid 255.84 shipped.  I don't believe any modifications will be necessary to fit it aside from securing it in place.

I am looking to use an AC Condenser off a 96 Jeep Cherokee.

There was a Dodge Dakota or some small pickup that has a really good and small condensor. Might be an option.

Probly a little late but if you use the 1.6 pump setup and brackets and all it all fits with the exception of trimming the timing cover, and it's all stockety stock stock.
Mine is cold.
