Here is a picture and a question for all you who do this a little more - what kind of editing software can I use to erase my license number?  None of my currently installed programs work to do this little item, and I have new plates now.

What sort of computer setup do you have, and what programs installed? Something like erasing (painting over) a license plate # should be cake for even a program as limited as microsoft paint. If you're looking for a good freeware image editor, I have nothing but good things to say about the GIMP ( http://www.gimp.org/ ).

What sort of problems are you running into, exactly?

I use Paint.net, another free program  (different than MS Paint that comes with most MS OS's).   I find it a little easier to use than GIMP, but maybe that's just me.  You can actually do this in MS Paint as well.  Regardless of what image manipulation/editing program you use, the most common tool to accomplish what you want is eraser.   Zoom in on the area, select the eraser tool (change size as required to speed up the process) and then left click and wipe across the plate in the image and eliminate it.

The paranoid among us who think that there are spam bots roaming the web looking for personal ID to use and fab up a plate with your numbers or something.  Excons need numbers to make into plates, cause thats the job they learned in prison?  I am not really sure, but I don't want to sign up for the ID protection they sell on the radio everyday.
I did get rid of MS paint a few years ago before I figured out it was the memory that was slowing down the PC.  Thanks for the tips on editing software.

Because I just called the local sheriff in your town and reported that I just saw a car with your license plate with someone who was obviously driving drunk.

All sorts or weird stuff happens on the internet. People can get upset and vindictive. There's no reason to connect what you post online to your real life identity when it isn't necessary to do so.

edit: As to OP's question, you can use MS Paint to just blot it out or you can download the GIMP (google it) which is like a free Photoshop, it's good for basic photo editing.

Most law enforcement requires a street and direction of travel for drunk or reckless driving complaints, and also you have to give them your name. Anonymous complaints don't cut it anymore.

My name is Bill Smith and I can be reached at this fake number, I just saw themans car with this number license plate heading south on US 76 towards Millersburg driving erratically and with a big sign that says "**** the cops".   

One minute of internet research based on theman53's signature produced a believable false police report.  Bajacalal's paranoia still stands.
