« on: September 13, 2011, 07:23:38 pm »
Will a 1.6 td exhaust down pipe of a 1991 Jetta work on my 1981 Rabbit truck. I have heard there may be some clearence problems with the shift linkage. Can the pipe be mod. to work?

not even CLOSE to fitting.. you would have to hack it up soo bad that it wouldnt even be worth it..

the steering rack is mounted to the BODY on your car..

the steering rack is mounted to the SUB FRAME on the mk2 car you want parts off of.

it clears the shift linkage just fine, just wont clear anything else  ;)

wait, turbo downpipe, or exhaust downpipe? there IS a difference.

turbo downpipe is cast iron, bolts directly to turbo.

exhaust downpipe is steel tubing, and connects to the turbo downpipe with some BIG c clips.

86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

Sometimes when they say downpipe they mean the ?-pipe coming out of the turbo.
That will work, with some adjustments to the shift lever.

yea, if you just want to use the cast iron piece, then its fine, it works, the actual downpipe does not tho.

Yes the cast iron part is what I was talking about. So it should work then, Thanks.
