Don't have a pic handy, but look at your oil filter, then look above it... the oil cooler looks like a "sandwich" and has an inlet and an outlet.

The green arrow points to the oil/coolant heat exchanger, which is powdercoated black but the factory colour (or lack thereof) is plain grey/silver like the TD intake. This is also where you attach your oil filter to.

This week my oil/coolant heat exchanger will be removed in favour of this oil cooler:

See the silver thing on the far right of the picture? That replaces the factory oil/coolant exchanger completely. The exchanger will be taken off.

The coolant will no longer go to the coolant/oil heat exchanger - the new coolant hoses connecting the water pump will have 2 ports instead of 3 - neither going to the exchanger. The oil will be cooled with it's own radiator. Am I making sense? :)

Yeah, that makes sense.  I was thinking of doing the same thing, but I've never seen a cooler like yours.  I was thinking of using an automatic transmission oil cooler radiator, but I don't know what to use for the connection to the engines oil circuit.  I was thinking that I might have to fab something that screws in between the oil filter housing and the filter.  Just not sure how to configure it.

Where did you get yours?

Do you have a better picture of that connector that replaces the VW cooler?  Does it mount between oil filter and the factory oil cooler mount?

Yes, exactly. It's a straight bolt on.

I'll take some this week.

If I recall correctly the radiator is a Tru Cool brand, or Pro Cool brand. It came with my GT20 turbo package marketed towards the 1.9 TDIs, now discontinued. If you google "tru cool" you'll find some vendors that sell these radiators. I'll measure my radiator and post the measurements. Is my radiator too big? or too small? I have no way of knowing until I try it, besides my engine doesn't exactly represent a stock TD.

I got the rubber hoses and adapter/connector from 935racer.

I'll second the comment about that being one slick looking motor you have malone.

You have a part number for the paint you used on the block??

The color is a powder coat that I did myself, kind of a special blend.

I sell the same oil cooler that malone has there quite often, just installed one on a 1.6td caddy last monday. They work awesome, I mount them in front of the rad.
