my 84 jetta TD w/factory AC is giving me fits. for some reason the damper door up in the passenger side of the cowl will not close unless I reach into the dash and pull the pivoting vacuum control unit forward a bit (the radio is removed). The selector lever doesn't seem to pull it quite enough to send vacuum to the dashpot that controls the damper door. I move the lever all the way to the left to MAX AC, but the door won't close unless the vac fitting is given a little more of a push. If the damper up there doesn't close then warm air from outside the car gets inside the passenger compartment and the AC doesn't work as well. Anyone ever have this problem?
well I fixed it...does anyone want to know what I did?
ok. I have an AAZ here with a K03 turbo, the engine has these 12V vacuum switches, I think they control the waste gate during warm up? Anyways, what I did was put one of those vac switches in the vac lines in the cowl where the dashpot that controls the damper door is, and wired it to a toggle switch that I mounted on the dash where the flasher and rear defrost switches are. This way I can control the damper door independent of any of the selector lever settings on the heater control.
Thank you very much!
have anymore of those switches
yes as a matter of fact I do have some moar of them but they are also used on mk3 cars with ABA engines.
