So NA14x VS NA13X
« on: January 18, 2010, 10:19:54 pm »
I had been asking around for awhile, trying to find out what's up
with the differing part numbers for two seemingly same-injectored
engines: the NA 1.6 in a rabbit up to 84, and the NA Golf/Jetta
from 85 up.  Most places that rebuild injectors spec the same one
for all of em, but Bosch has two different numbers, the 14x
is the later and the 13x is the earlier.

So my ME code jetta motor I put together, I ordered
up a set of bosch rebuilt NA14X guys and put em in,
with my 107AG rabbit pump.  It worked, be awhile before
I have too much of a point of reference compared to the
NA13X I just installed.  I couldn't find an answer about
the difference for sure, so I bought a set and put them in
tonight.

One difference I observe indirectly, is that they pop at a lower pressure.
My clatter is way, way up compared to the NA14X I've had in
for the last 3K miles or so.  Did not alter timing, it's in .93 or therebouts
I think.  If I'm thinking correctly lower break
pressure would effectivly advance the timing.
Also notice it's slightly slower to descend in RPM's between
shifts, take that however you will.

I think it runs better, but it's hard to say with the timing
now "advanced".  Time will tell, my MPG has not been
stellar, but it runs well otherwise.  I've also observed
previously my pump pressure curve has been funky,
I plan to check it again sometime soon.  Preferably after
I re-seal the pump, but I have another car getting a trans ahead of the
truck, never enough time.

One question I'll toss in here is, how much clatter is too much when warm?
I have a fair bit at idle now, maybe some at lower light throttle rpm's,
nothing I can hear on the road or accelerating briskly.

Update.
It runs better, considerably.
My previous complaint about BAD nasty clatter when cold is GONE.
Also, it smokes under accel now, did not before, and does want
the cold start handle or it'll miss a beat or two when dead cold.

So, either my 1st set of NA14X are bad somehow
or they do not play nice with my 107AG early 1.6 rabbit pump.
I suppose I would like to know what the 14X pop at, but
that wouldn't do me a lot of good without knowing
what the 13X pop at.  I suspect this will go as an
unanswered question for awhile, I've got other cars
wanting my time and attention unfortunately.
