tips for changing injectors on a AAZ

bought a set of 1.6 injectors off prothe and i have an aaz i know i have to bend the lines alittle but as for the removel what am i supost to look for,   i mean cautions, i have heard about breaking the head.........true?


i need to do them ASAP i need whatever tips are out there please!

loosen the injector lines and take off the return lines.  get a big socket and break them loose easy and they should come out without much trouble.  remember to torque them to like 51 ft lbs or something like that and put new heat shields and anti sieze on the injector threads before you put them back in.  i dont know about the lines.  get the right ones!

I was told by a local vw mechanic guru type that when loosening the injector make sure that you're turning into the top of the head  rather then the bottom. (i hope this makes sense?!?!)

In other words, when the turning force or torque is being applied, it is being applied above the injector (where there is a lot of thick material), versus below the injector when the space\material between the injector and the bottom of the head is very thin.

ok thanks for the info.....i didnt want the 1.9 ones i wanted the 1.6 injectors. there only alittle shorter so should be easy enough to bend the lines. hope i can get em in tomrrow. what size again is the socket? just a reg. deep socket should work or is there a special injector socket>

do exactly stated above.  if you put any down force you will most likely break off the injector boss.  this will could result in the head being scrap, unless you get it welded.  but that requires removing the head, which is a much bigger job than just replacing injectors.

don't forget to put anti seize on the injector threads!  helps them go in smooth, and helps when you need to remove them as well  :wink:

some sockets might damage the little returns sticking out... be careful of that!

I have heard this before but I have never removed an injector or seen a head without injectors. I am guessing that it has something to do with the forces applied when removing the injector other than the torque. If you take the injector and torque wrench as your object of interest, the application of force on the wrench will create a moment or torque about the axis of the hole. However, the hole will also exert a force on the injector equal in magnitude but opposite in direction to the force applied to the wrench. You want this reaction to be supported by material 'above' the injector?
