Must remove IP to remove a/c,alt bracket?
« on: October 27, 2008, 05:09:25 pm »
Hi guys.  My brother's A2 Golf (1990) IDI has been rattling loose the a/c,alt bracket bolts, and he didn't heed my advice and have me check the bolts every month, and now he's screwed.  The bolt that that holds the A/C compressor to the bracket on the passenger side has snapped off in the bracket (well inside the threads).  I'd like to remove the whole bracket so I can clean it up properly (so I can use loctite on those damn bolts!), and remove the broket bolt.  I removed the compressor, and alt, but it doesn't seem possible to remove the bracket without removing the injection pump.  Am I correct in assuming this?

If I do indeed have to remove the IP, can I simply bolt everything back where it was and not have to worry about timing the pump?  I don't have the tools or experience to do this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I'm sick at the moment, and it's damn cold outside, which makes working on the car a pain in the ass...

Thanks!

Mark.
