1.6d PCV hose with early intake
« on: December 15, 2024, 09:48:22 am »
Hey folks,

Im going to be swapping a late 1.6D into the 79 rabbit but I want to use the early aluminum style intake with the bung on top. So which hose would I use to connect that to the valve cover and which style valve cover am I looking for? Motor will be using the later style vac pump and the pcv port on the crankcase (which is connected to both vac pump and valve cover) will be blocked off.

So you have a hose that goes from the vacuum pump and front crankcase vent, to the valve cover?
But it doesn't go on towards the intake?
That's odd. I think there is usually an upside-down T port bolted to the front of the block with one port pointing up and one aimed toward the front of the car. On the '79 with the upgraded PCV hose up goes to the valve cover and/then intake.
The port aimed forward goes to the vacuum pump hose you are deleting.

The stock valve cover for that early PCV setup has a metal port aiming straight back towards the intake.
Many valve covers are setup with a rubber grommet pointing straight up, but that won't work right for the stock NA intake.

If you still have the valve cover and intake from the '79, that can be swapped over.

Sorry, wasn't clear.

Currently have PCV from block to vac pump, then vac pump to Tee which connects valve cover and intake.

Going to 1.6D and newer vac pump I will only have to connect valve cover with intake manifold...but using older solid aluminum intake which has the nipple on top, is there a factory hose that connects them?

The newer 1.6D have a plastic intake manifold with the nipple at bottom and I believe the valve cover nipple points directly up whereas the 1.5D the cover is angled back 45deg.

There is a hose that goes from the old 1.6D valve cover to the intake with the nipple on the top.
I can't help you with the part number or even name to use to search for it.
