BFI stage 1 mounts (mk1 chassis) with TDI?
« on: March 15, 2013, 02:56:55 pm »
im just wondering if anyone has tried some aftermarket mounts, i like the bfi mounts because they are 2 piece and dont require pressing, they are stiffer than stock gasser mounts, and so are the factory diesel mounts, so i dont see why it would be a problem.

do you think they would vibrate way more than stock?

Depends on the durameter sp? of the rubber. I put a "soft" poly in my MK2 and it made your teeth itch, only at idle. When driving it was awesome, but under 1,300 rpm it was horrible. Granted that is MK2, but my friend has a gasser MK1 rabbit he drag races and it is a vibrating pig too.

My mk1 rattle like a mofo with stock mk1 gas mounts!

MK1 Autohaus sells an 'HD kit' that has some Diesel side mounts.  Caddy w/ A/C on driver side, diesel trans mount on passenger side, isolators and all.
I think it's the degrading of the isolators/front amount, as well as the tearing of the rear trans mount that causes the most vibration issues in MK1s.  That and not setting idle right, even then there is still a little inherent vibration just from being a diesel motor in a light chassis.

I have no isolators.. Dunno why but I did not re-install. All mounts are 1-2 years old and still looking good.

Idle is probably set high! but still shakes and vibrates.
