Part number for latest damper/balancer for 1.9 TD AAZ
« on: May 12, 2008, 11:51:34 pm »
As the title says, looking for that part number.   Want to put it on my car as a preventative measure against the crank sprocket problem.  Also does anyone know how many different versions of balancer there are (were) and the differences?
Thanks,
Ian

Yeah I have a clutch pulley for the alternator.  Just wanted to look into replacing the damper as I know there have been a few updated designs.  Mine is original I believe.

Thank you very much for that link Jimfoo.  I had never heard of the Bus Depot but I looked around their site and they can sell me stuff at a better price than my Canadian source.  Lots of Canadian retailers are still cashing in on prices set when our dollar was only worth 65 cents US.  Will definitely become a customer.

FYI, I tried to order one of these harmonic balancers from bus depot about a month ago. After not receiving it, and not hearing anything, I emailed them, and they said that they have a backorder on this part with no eta, so I cancelled my order. Too bad, such a good price.

I had a similar experience with the Bus Depot.  I was amazed by their low prices.  Their site said to call or e-mail for shipping costs OUTSIDE of US and Canada.  I ordered a couple things from them on a Wednesday or Thursday via their site.  I kind of wanted this stuff soon.  So I figured the parts were on their way until I received an e-mail from them the NEXT TUESDAY stating that their website doesn't accurately quote shipping costs to Canada and that the clutch pulley I had ordered was backordered as well, and they didn't know the ETA.  That just sorta burned me...I mean when a person is buying auto parts its usually not just for fun...their vehicle needs repair and they want their parts yesterday.  They could have got back to me sooner IMO.

Anyway, I bought my clutch pulley and damper from this guy:

Roseland Technical Services

[email protected]

His website doesn't list everything he sells;  give him a call or e-mail what you're looking for.  I've dealt with him a few times and have been very happy.  He keeps things in stock and shipping is fast.  Clutch pulley was $85 for tax and shipping, which is still much less than the dealer.  I can get you the part number if you want.  The pullies are different for MK3 TDIs and MK4 TDIs...I learned that the hard way.
