Heated W/W nozzles?

I've got these snazzy wires dangling from the hood of my '90 Jetta after I took off the debris guard that sits under the venting at the rear of the hood. They run into the w/w nozzles. Were these puppies an option on the mk 2's or is this a transplant/aftermarket?
There's no juice (12v) across them when the w/w pump is activated so they're not working...but curiosity forces me to ask...

Did you check for voltage with the rear window de-fogger on?
Just a thought  :wink: 'caus the heated mirrors are normally connected with the de-fogger.

i got a parts car from nova scotia that has them.  mine doesn't.  the parts car also has heated seats    so i think its one of those winter package things.  not sure how they are activated though...  but choppercat does have a point.  to me it would be a waste to have them on anytime you have your windshield wipers on... they would burn out or just be a drain on the system on a rainy summer day.

I can't see the point in heating the nozzles.  They'll still spray well below the point that the windshield washer fluid spray turns into a smear of ice on the windshield.

Think back, to a time of ice and snow in the great state of Maine.......

Even though the fluid is still liquid, I ofton run into problems in the winter where there is ice or hard crusty snow on top of the nozzle tips.  No spray untill the engine heat comes up and melts the stuff on the hood.  I have had to pick the ice out of the opening around the nozzle so it could spray.  The best part is that when you do that, it almost always moves the nozzle :x .  Now it's shooting clear over the hood, or under the wiper blade :x  :x .  Get out, pull gloves off again, find a pin or something, try and reposition nozzle.  Does not sound bad unless you are on the side of I-95 at 11pm and it's -10 F and the wind and snow are blowing sideways.  Oh yeah, don't forget about the huge snowbanks on the side of the road and the 18 -wheeler's ripping past in the dark at 80 mph.  Fun Fun Fun :lol:

My 90 Jetta had the heated nozzles but no heated seats. I have no idea when they were activated, but my guess would be when the car was running.

The heated nozzles were great because when snow and ice accumulated on them, it would melt off without me having to stand out there with my fingers on them trying to clear them or chipping them with an ice scrapper and damaging the paint.

75° and sunny all summer with no humidity unless it's raining.  Also, no mosquitoes, black flies, midges, deer flies, horse flies or wood ticks.   :lol:

i got the hotwash from canadian tire for xmas last year... it was/is selling for around $60.. and yes it does work very very well (in the winter) i need to install a button to turn it off, because it draws so much power that my alternator belt slips  :shock:  

its a pretty cool system. (or hot)  click the washer once, (dont hold it down) and let it do its magic.  30 seconds later, just spray away.  when its done, it bleeds off the rest of the fluid.  don't really need heated wiper nozzles with that

That item heats the fluid. I got one as a gift last Christmas from a local bigbox store (CTC) and it was recalled....make sure yours wasn't one of them.
