Okey.

I've chosen to go and O-ring my block, I have a bad picture of it:

This "o-ring" is pressing against the headgasket. I had no idea that metal gasket existed to M21D24 engines.
This is a popular thing to do on gassers (BMW) to keep the headgasket into place when you get really high boost.
I have not found ARP bolt to fit on the M21? Do you have a link or something.

What rpms are you setting your pump to? I like RPM :)

I used to run a maxed original plunger, with loads of boost...
Then I overdid the methanol injection.. I forgot to mount the hose to the WG... and yeah guess what happened ;)

If your building a pump, you might aswell build one for me.. What do you want for this modification?

Regards

Okey.

I guess they mean 400hp from the engine, not whp though.
But the pricetag on the 400hp pump is.. BIG..

But will the pump/belt hold together?

Non VW Group Diesel / VE Pump modifications BMW 524/324
« on: June 06, 2010, 07:13:22 am »
Hello,

I'm currently putting my new engine together. With a couple of modifications to the block and head to withstand the increased boostpressure.
Its a 6 cyl BMW M21D24, with a VE pump.

Now I've come to the point were I have to modify my pump and I've run in to some problems.

The shop that is suppose to put my pump together refuses to go bigger than 11mm plunger.
He used to build pumps with 12mm, but he says that the "high" rpms is going to make it run bad, the 12mm is only for cummins.. bla bla bla...
And also that my cambelt will shread in to pieces.

Then I spoke to another shop, who offered complete kits, pump + injectors.
They see no problems whatsoever with 12mm plunger, and they promise 400hp. But they limit the pump to 5000rpm, which I can accept...

Who is correct?

I dont want to go 11mm.. thats 180whp. Not enough. Then I might aswell spend my money into a gasser.

I have also seen 14mm plunger/camplate kits. Is this just ridiculous? I guess this is only to cummins... That will just spread my engine all over the highway ;)
High rpm can I go with this? 1500? ;)

The engine is going into a E30, and its only for fun... NOT a daily driver.

What do you guys think?

50 psi eh?
how you gonna hold that head down?
how ya gonna keep the gasket from shooting out the side of the head?
i talked to some people on here, about my 2.0 audi (same engine as yours, minus one cylinder)
and they told me it could run 40 pretty reliably. but not with a stock head gasket or bolts.

I'll take some pics of my modifications of the block... =)
And I'm not the first to run at 50 PSI on these engines, but people are also full of ***, thats why I have a spare block  ;D

Are you sure the BMW M21 is Audi? Your not talking VAG? (I know its a VAG forum, but I like my BMW =)

And I'm not planning on running at 50PSI all the time, everyday. Everyday boost will be around 40PSI. With electronic controlled boost/boostcontroller.
My clutch is going to leave my at 800NM anyway.

Ive run 27PSI in my standard 1,6GTD.
Ive run around 30 PSI in my standard M21D24. (Then I added loads of Methanol+Water, and the *** went [email protected])

Still, I cant tell you if its going to work, but I know atleast one guy running at 50PSI today, and the finnish guys run mercedes engines at 50PSI. (Youtube Mynä Diesel)

Or do it this way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcDztfFXPww&translated=1

And this is a album from a swedish guy who drives at 50PSI with the same engine as me: http://www.helgonet.ath.cx/album04

I'm going to run 20:1 on my M21D24 with around 50 PSI =)

Will it hold? Probably since theres is guys out there who has this setup..

IDI Engine / Re: 2nd ring on a M21D24 piston
« on: August 11, 2009, 07:22:25 am »
Thanks for the answers.

I checked the ring, and close to the gap I found "TOPC" written.

So I mounted it that way, and the groove is facing down. (the letters up)

The top ring had "PC" mounted on it, so I mounted that facing upwards as well.

The oil ring had nothing on it, looked to be the same on both sides, so I just put them on  ;D

Hope I have compression later =)

Thanks.
If you have those letters facing up you have them on right.

Great!
Thanks

IDI Engine / 2nd ring on a M21D24 piston
« on: August 09, 2009, 05:09:40 pm »
Probably a stupid question, but I want to get this right.

I pulled my BMW M21D24 IDI Engine apart 8months ago, and had everything lined up, balanced etc.

Now, when I'm putting everything together, I'm not sure about the second compression pistonring (the middle one)

I can be mounted in 2 different ways.

The "groove" should be down? Is this correct?  ???

Dont want to have to pull the engine apart again just because of stupidity  :(

IDI Engine / Swapping engine in a VW Caravelle
« on: September 22, 2006, 06:51:31 am »
I'm wondering if a 1.6TD is bolt on to change in a VW caravelle?
It currently has a 2,1 Gas engine...
And we all know, we dont want that ;)

So is there any chance in hell I can get this engine in, or is it just loads of work?

Its always about getting it done =)

IDI Engine / Klangs Golf GTD MK1 Mods
« on: September 20, 2006, 05:41:23 am »
I bought this Golf GTD because I needed a car to go long distances for a while.
Then I got sick and bored going down the highway and figuered that I need some mods to be done...

Quick info:

Golf GTD -84
Black
1.6TD
2" Exhaust
Soot modded amongst other small adjustments
Higher boost (1.8 BAR / 26 PSI)

Dyno tested to 100hk. (before intercooler)

But were about to change that, It'll probably end up with a piston through the bonnit... then I'm happy =)

A couple of pics:

Got a serious amount of soot on the dyno, as you can see.
I blow the door shut when I got some boost...

Mounting a Intercooler:

Trying to get a Saab 9000 intercooler in there...

Yep, of course we need a intercooler..
But why, oh why must we try to get the over-sized one?
Oh well.. lets give it a go..

Remove the front, radiator and other things in the way..

At this time we realized there was no chance in hell this intercooler would get in there... (if you look to the left you see the intercooler..)
So its time for some cutting :)

Tada, a big funny looking hole.. Fixing some smaller things with a clonk-o-meter and a big bar:

Now, we can almost get it in there:

Oh well, I'm sick of cutting things, - Just get it in..

Oh f... we cant close the bonnit.. what to do? CUT IT!

And thats how far we got now... I runs really well.. beat some gassers as Golf GTI MK2, Polo GTI -04...

Pink my ride mod

Warning: The images you are about to see WILL offent you, so for your own sake, dont have any beverages in your mouth when looking below.. Unless... you want to clean

With this sed, lets go:

Friend is grinding the boost pin:

Closeup:

Back in the pump:

And then we had to face the problem with the bonnit not really looking that well with 2 big holes in it..
My 2 friends wanted to "fix it, make it look sweet".. - Well okey.. go ahead do what the f... you want..

That, was my biggest mistake..
They really went in for it, and came up with this:

Violett metallic paint with GLITTER!?

And that was just not enough for them.. they had to get the scoop's aswell:

And the "result":

Two happy friends... (because they dont have to be in it?)

And the last pic... Klang on the roof:

"I have officially been 'pinked'" :\

Any ideas on what to do now?

So please, give me some comments to ease this pain =)

IDI Engine / Oil in the Reservoir/expansiontank? (1.9D)
« on: September 12, 2006, 06:19:26 pm »
okay.
Thanks for all of your answers.
It seems I have a 50 / 50 answer if it could be the oilcooler or HG.
So what I'm going to do is bypass the oil cooler and drain / clean the cooling system, and then go for a ride..

If theres oil, new HG (new 1.6td head).

My next question is, where can I get a hold of a metal HG thats will fit on a 1.9 N/A block and 1.6td head?

Regards, Klang
