i'd agree tdi is a much better starting point.

but if you're going to use an aaz, i'd recommend ditching the k24, that is not capable of 180hp. Get atleast a 10mm pump head installed by giles to help add more fuel with less heat. Use a pd intake manifold, it doesn't really matter which one they're all similar. Use main and head studs for sure, also use rod studs if possible, stock aaz rods can not accept rod studs so you will need to use tdi rods, or aftermarket rods if you want to use rod studs. tdi and aftermarket rods may require clearancing. a good intercooler is an absolute must. He200wg, he221w, or he211 are all proven to be capable of producing 180hp

max boost really depends more on the turbo and how much fuel is going with it.

40 psi from a stock t3 is going to be a lot harder on an aaz than an he221

i don't think you'll be in danger, but an egt is pretty cheap and easy to install, a very worthwhile investment.

700 is pretty cold, that's a really good test you did though, i'd be shooting for a max temp of 1000-1200 on a pull like that, IDI engines are really sensitive to heat. 700 is very safe though. For other mods if i were you i'd check your boost pin, make sure it's not the flat boring one, and considering doing the governor mod. Can you take a picture of your throttle lever and post it?

1y is probably best, but pd intakes have been proven to make power by many builds, and it is more compact.

with hx27 i would guess power in the 150-200hp range.

most parts are compatible from 1.6 to 1.7 to 1.9 to 1.9tdi. which is why id just go with a tdi from the start unless if you just want to have a unique engine, then by all means use a 1.7. a tdi will fit in to a t3 nearly as easily as a 1.7.It will be much easier to source parts for a tdi, and more reliable in the long run

alh crank would need to be machined because the nose is different, the 06a blocks have a chain driven oil pump.

aaz pistons in an alh block would be possible but it would require a lot of modifications

if you have the drain that bolts to the k24/t3 you can just cut the crimp off and combine with the aaz lower drain via an oil rated hose like i did

if you want an upgraded stock turbo id go with the t3, its more efficient at higher boost pressures. if you want a real upgrade use a newer turbo like an he200wg
