Here is my feed back on 4 puck clutch for the 020 tranny. I installed it on my jetta approximately 25k km's ago. My Jetta is making 125hp/175ft-lbs according to my freinds G-tech (just to give you a bit of background).
At first the clutch was great to drive, easy around town almost like stock, but after about 15k km's it is almost impossible to drive. Does anyone have a suggestion on another clutch that has similar holding power but is more forgiving/better wearing? It is to the point now where I can't back up any distance without stalling, even if I rev the piss out of it. The engine bounces around a heck of alot at this point even in 1st gear starting off.

is that a 4puck solid hub?
have you tried a sprung hub?
if not i've used the spec stg3 setup with good luck @ 242ft lbs

bouncing around you say? i would check your motor mounts first... if you haven't already... when my forward mount was dead, my car would buck and seem like it was stalling in reverse.. had to rev up quite a bit. new mount, and it was all good!!

I have one of Dave's 020 4 puck clutches, great for lots of torque and I love it.My car is not exactly daily driven so I can put up with the harsh engagment you speak of.The 4 puck copper disc is not really ideal for city driving.
My old 1.6td made approx 125 hp and had a good condition stock clutch which just held up.You could try swaping just the disc for a stock one as you'll have a heavier pressure plate anyhow I'm quite sure that it will hold fine at 125hp.

I would think it would be your motor mounts as well, we've been running those clutches for about 2 years now with no issues. And its a sprung hub if it came from me. Let us know what you find.

It sure wasn't the motor mounts, car drives great with anew clutch. A little old lady could drive it now :) The old clutch was super aggressive for sure, it destroyed the PP and the springs were rattling around.
Hard to see here because of my crappy camera but some of the springs were about ready to be cut through.

Anywho, it worked as advertised and held the power no problem, my friend/mechanic just wanted to let people know of his experience with it and some of the downsides he encountered. Yes he does know how to drive a 5spd and his engine mounts are perfectly fine. :roll:
He's not super computer savvy so he asked me to help him out with a picture on here, this is not a bash, just information. Maybe he got the 1 in 1000 crap clutch (it does happen from time to time).

mines held up fine, but i do know where you're coming from. Its a bastard for city driving until you get used to it. Definitely an aggressive clutch. I do notice mine rattling at take off and lower speed shifting though :?:
